Droughtie bull goes for $12,000 at Glen Fosslyn sale

BUYERS had plenty of opportunity to snap up a bargain at the 2012 annual Glen Fosslyn Droughtmaster Bull Sale at the Roma Saleyards on Friday where stud principals, the Salter family, sold 71 bulls for an average of $4021.

Wayne and Grant Veivers, Rewan Cattle Company, Rolleston, paid the top price of $12,000 for Glen Fosslyn 11080, a 23-month-old herd bull who weighed in at 754kg.

Catalogued as Lot 23, he had an EMA of 122sq.cm and a scrotal measurement of 44cm.

The Veivers family also paid the second top price of $10,000 for Lot 2, Glen Fosslyn Future.

At 23-months, Future weighed in at 802kg and recorded 132sq.cm in the EMA and 41cm in the scrotum.

Hastings and Sandra Donaldson, Medway, Bogartungan added to their sire battery by outlaying $8,000 for the 840kg, 25 month old Glen Fosslyn Fosters who boasted growth EBV's in the top 1% of the breed.

Also chasing growth and quality was the Golden family who purchased the first lot of the day, Glen Fosslyn Fogarty, for $7500 for their Yuleba based operation.

23-month-old Fogarty weighed 840kg with growth EBV's in the top 1% of the breed and was out of one of Glen Fosslyn's leading cows, Glen Fosslyn 135 who has an average calving interval of 362 days to produce nine calves in nine years.

The volume buyer of the sale was the Firth family, Cambooya, who purchased eight bulls averaging $3125 for their Bollon Property North Kulki.

The Anderson family, Devils Nest Partnership, Theodore paid an average of $3357 for their seven bulls.

The Parkinson family, Fairleigh, Drillham, purchased four bulls averaging $3250 while long time supporter, Russell Gillingham, Cumalong Grazing Co, Longvale, Wandoan, paid an average of $3750 for his four bulls.

McWaters Pastoral Co, Raleigh Station, Quilpie purchased four bulls averaging $3125 while Lex and Janelle Mesner, Teelba Station Glenmorgan purchased three to average $5666 and Paul and Sally Kennedy, Donroman, Dirranbandi, bought three averaging $3666.
